Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) once again made history when its Arts and Humanities were listed for the first time in the 401+ band of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2019 published on 31 October through the portal: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2019/subject-ranking/arts-and-humanities.
UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani expressed his elation on UUM’s first time listing of its Arts and Humanities subject in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2019.
According to him, the listing was indeed a proud achievement and will indirectly put UUM on par with other leading universities.
The Times Higher Education ranking system takes into account fields related to Arts; Performing Arts and Design; Languages, Literature and Linguistics; History, Philosophy and Theology; Architecture and Archaeology in developing the ranking for the Arts and Humanities subjects.
For the subject of Arts and Humanities, Times Higher Education World University Rankings employed 13 indicators which are categorized into five main categories: Teaching: The Learning Environment (37.4%), Research: Volume, Income and Reputation (37.6%), Citations: Research Influence 15%), International Outlook: Staff, Students and Research (7.5%) and Industry Income: Innovation (2.5%).
Moreover, to be listed in the Arts and Humanities subjects, a university needs to produce at least 250 Scopus-indexed publications for five years apart from possessing five percent (5%) or 50 academic staff.
