Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), for the very first time, received an overall rating of Four Stars in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Star Rating audit from the QS Intelligence Unit, London, United Kingdom.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, said that, based on the latest results released yesterday, UUM earned five stars in four key categories, namely, teaching, internationalisation, facilities, and marketability.
He added that the QS Star system evaluated the university with reference to various key performance indicators based on the rating method.
According to him, the stars were awarded to institutions based on various criteria and that the QS Star system could include universities which had not traditionally been included in the ranking.
Taking into consideration a much broader set of criteria compared with other world university rankings, QS Star placed emphasis on the excellence and diversity of the institutions being assessed.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all the members of the UUM campus community who had contributed to the success of the effort and hoped that the efforts would be continued to further raise UUM's standing to an even better position in the future.
UUM's venture into obtaining the QS Star rating started in November 2016, with the process of supplying data begun in March 2017. The audit was finally completed on 25 August 2017.
The QS Star Rating is valid until the year 2020.
